Horizons K Phonics Review
Horizons Phonics and Reading for Kindergarten is an award winning, Christian based curriculum that contains over 160 lessons. This phonetically based curriculum explores letters, letter combinations, phonetics, fluency, reading comprehension, and even some handwriting. These brightly colored activities hold the students attention so well that even those students who dislike reading are drawn in.
The teachers guides are easy to understand and easy to follow. An overview is provided for each lesson as well as a “Scope and Sequence” section that will allow you to look ahead in the school year and plan accordingly. Sections on “Lesson Preparation“, “Common Stumbling Blocks”, and “Classroom Solutions” are useful for both the novice, and the seasoned home school teacher.
The student’s workbooks are full of brightly colored activities that engage your students’ imaginations while they are learning. Even those students who are easily distracted learn well with this program. There are several worksheets for each lesson, ensuring that your student will grasp the concept firmly before moving on to another. The readers are fun and interactive. Students will learn the names and sounds of letters through the stories as well as the pictures. Each lesson also includes comprehension questions at the end to further your child’s understanding.
Horizons Phonics and reading is an outstanding curriculum that will have your student reading before he/she even realizes it. It’s easy to see why this curriculum was chosen for Homeschooling Parent Magazines’ 2009 Stamp of Approval Award.
